Glimpse Of The Future Distress
Text: Luke 21:25-21:28
IBCWPM 12/29/04
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Periodic catastrophes are now gaining an inevitable position and
authority in touching man’s conscience and awareness concerning the uncertain future of mankind and its abused habitat
which is the planet earth.
The unpleasant and heart-moving sights we see around us today undeniably trouble the hearts
of many, leading them to more fears and insecurities. In times of uncertainties, we must keep in mind that man’s faith
in God plays a great role in his quest for hope and survival.
In Psalm 46:1-3, it is written, God is our refuge and
strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains
be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the
swelling thereof. Shelah. (KJV)
Through this relevant message from the scriptures, we see a quick look of the future
distress that will surely come to earth. Knowing these things and keeping an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will
surely save us from dangerous waves of fears and hopelessness.
(I) Universal Distress Luke 21:9-11 21:25, 26 -Political
chaos vs9, 10 -Cosmic disturbance vs11, 25 -Global catastrophe vs11, 25 -Spiritual conflict vs8, 12-19
(II)
An Important Reminder Luke 21:8-24 21:34-36 -To avoid deception v8 -To draw us closer to God v28 -To stir up our
spiritual awareness vs29-33 -To prepare us for the coming of the Lord v34-36
God has not neglected to give
warnings and reminders to mankind through His Word and through nature, which are proofs of His loving-kindness and His desire
to protect us from evil things.
God is a loving and merciful God who is keeping in touch with us in various and significant
ways so we may take heed of His Word and be assured of His protection, but if we ignore or fail to take notice of His ways,
we will surely experience the unpleasant consequences of our sins and we will be put to a shameful and miserable situation.
As
people experience more strange and sorrowful events in life may every man avoid focusing his eyes on earthly things, but on
things above. In Luke 21:34, it is written, And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with
surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. (KJV)
Undoubtedly, the
Church will not go through the most feared tribulation period, but Christians have a God-given task to share the Gospel so
that people may find their way to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Telling the Good News to everyone not only give hope and
joy to the lost people but to all messengers of Truth as well.
Be a great witness for Christ; share the Gospel; live
in sincerity and in Truth; and be prepared for the glorious coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Higher Desire
Text: Colossians 3:1-4 IBCWPM October 27, 2004
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Every
living man has his own heart’s desire and this desire could trigger and invigorate his physical, emotional and spiritual
activities in life, defending on what kind of desire he has.
Our physical
desire, which is the desire of the flesh, energizes and develops our physical instinct and fleshly behavior. Our emotional
desire activates and intensifies our feelings toward a specific object of love or extreme dislike. Above all, our spiritual
desire gives us spiritual wings so we could soar up above turbulent winds of sins and compromises and have a closer fellowship
with God.
An evil
desire deceitfully ushers a man to ungodly and dangerous activity that will swiftly lead him to his tragic destruction.
A godly
spiritual desire produces spiritual activity that gives glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What
Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians in Colossians 3:1-4 reminds Christians concerning their new life in Christ and the appropriate
desire entailed with such a wonderful life.
(I) Seeking Things Which Are Above
Colossians 3:1, 2
-Heavenly things
(a) Spiritual things
(b) Godly things
A determined
man, who seeks the best of this world, will surely do all what he could do hoping to grab all what he could grab. After getting
more than his heart could wish, he will set his heart on these earthly things. He will safeguard his corruptible treasures
from any one who will try to rob them. He will be ready to guard his possessions saying, “over my dead body.”
It’s
so sad to hear that many professing believers are willing to give up their godly testimonies in exchange for “a dirty
piece of bread.”
In Colossians
3:1, 2, it is written, If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right
hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
(II) The True Christians’ Mindset
Colossians 3:1, 2
-Right focus
-Right attitude
-Right action
-Right heart with God
Spiritual
maturity is not a result of an overnight process, but a gradual progression based on a believer’s faith in Christ. How
he will seek the face of the Lord and how he will set his mind on things of God determine his spiritual success.
A godly
desire starts from a believer’s heart and a God-pleasing activity is an amazing result of surrendering one’s body
to God.
In Romans
12:1, 2, it is written, I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not be conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The above
passages from the Holy Bible, when gladly received, internalized and applied in a believer’s life, will surely bring
forth a God-glorifying life that will surely touch many lives. It will inspire multitude of people to seek and set their affection
on those things which are above.
Title: SOUL WINNER Text: Acts 8:26-31 Date: 2/26/03 Place: Ilagan Baptist Church
(WPM) Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Soul winners are the least appreciated people among the winners
of today. They are the unpopular winners the world cannot afford to give applause. Every true Christian
knows the value of soul winner's presence in the midst of lost and dying people. It's a sad thing but true that soul winning
is not much appealing any more to many professing believers. Saved people of our time must show true compassion
to the lost. It's high time to be "on Fire" spiritually and not be led by the vanishing appeal of soul winning.
The Biblical Qualification of a soul winner as seen in Philip's life:
(I) Sensitivity To Divine Calling
-willing to be led by divine direction vs26-29 *obedient to God's
calling *Spirit led
(II) Man Of Wisdom The grace of wisdom
to: -approach the lost vs30,31 -explain the Scriptures
vs32-34 -present Jesus as the only Savior of the world
v35 -stir up others to have a clear identity (through baptism)
v36 -check clear belief vs37,38
(III) Consistent Spiritual Life
-good testimony Acts 6:3-5 -vessel of Truth Acts 8:39,40
Acts 8:5 -minister of God's Grace Acts 6:3
Acts 8:6,7 Acts 8:12,13
Consecrate your life to the Lord and be a soul winner for God's
glory.
